Joe Biden’s Military Double Standard

The latest military pronouncement by Prez Contender Joe Biden

Delaware’s Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Democratic presidential candidate, called Wednesday for the use of military force to end the suffering in Darfur.

“I would use American force now,” Biden said at a hearing before his committee. “I think it’s time to put force on the table and use it.”

Biden has claimed that our forces should not be used in civil wars and should only be used in our national interest. This demand fails on both notes.

Under U.N.-backed agreements approved in the fall, a hybrid force of 22,000 African Union and U.N. peacekeepers are to be deployed in Darfur, Sudan, to protect and provide relief for 2.5 million Darfurians who have been forced from their homes and are now confined to camps.

Not a word in that statement about our troops. We would then be acting without world approval and authority. I am not sure that our pre-invasion intelligence is that good.

Biden said senior U.S. military officials in Europe told him that 2,500 U.S. troops could “radically change the situation on the ground now.”

“Let’s stop the bleeding,” Biden said. “I think it’s a moral imperative.”

Joe has decided that his version of “re-deployment” is a real re-deployment.

In reality, Biden makes a good case for Darfur intervention but the statements make him a hypocrite for all of the stated examples. This venture is a bad idea only because we would be venturing into another Muslim area and that will only cause America more grief. Joe, this is one of those damned if you do damned if you don’t deals. It is time for the Blue Helmet crew to do their job. They think that they can rule the world so they should be able to handle this hot spot in short order – years late but that is what negotiations are all about.
