Plame Flames Out
Melanie Sloan, Attorney for Joe and Valerie Wilson told Chris Matthews on July 5th
Well, I’m sorry, but you certainly can’t know somebody’s motives until you have sat down and questioned them about them.
We haven’t had the opportunity to take the deposition testimony of anybody in this case yet. And that’s what a complaint does. It alleges facts that you believe to be true, and then you go out and you try and prove them through discovery.
That was a good try. Today U.S. District Judge John D. Bates told Sloan and the Wilson’s that
“The alleged means by which defendants chose to rebut Mr. Wilson’s comments and attack his credibility may have been highly unsavory,” Bates wrote.
“But there can be no serious dispute that the act of rebutting public criticism, such as that levied by Mr. Wilson against the Bush administration’s handling of prewar foreign intelligence, by speaking with members of the press is within the scope of defendants’ duties as high-level Executive Branch officials,” Bates said.
With that, the case is over.

Aside from the fact that Plame had not been a field agent for years, and the fact that her neighbors knew what she did for a living, the most galling thing about her case is that she hooked her HUSBAND up with a JOB!. That’s personally benefiting from your ordinary charge of duties. Sorta like having your employer (the government) buy your chewing gum. Sorta like Frank Cady getting his kids on SGA’s payroll. However Libby shouldn’t have lied on the stand. If you are not sure then qualify your answers. Too bad we have weak judges in Lassen County or Cissell would have been burned for lying under oath in his small claims court case.
