Sutter Board Of Supervisors – Failure Of Leadership Or Simply Lazy Leaders?
Goofy! That is all that I can say about the Sutter County Board of Supervisors and how THEY handled the replacement of the County Clerk-Recorder.
In Lassen County we had a resignation parade of 3 members of the Lassen Municipal Utility District Board of Directors. Our Board of Supervisors held a discussion on the process of replacing a majority of the utility’s board. They then held a public “interview†of all of the candidates – 14 of them if memory serves me correctly. This is called transparency and doing your job as an elected official.
The Sutter County Board of Supervisors failed in their process. I agree with the use of the county clerk-recorders of El Dorado and Shasta counties to perform the initial interviews. They are professionals who know what it takes to fulfill the duties of the position. However the final decision was left to the County CAO
This left the public out of the process and that is not how things should be done with an elected position. Supervisor Stan Cleveland voted NO on the process but the other members of the Board of Supervisors simply saluted the CAO and got out their big rubber stamp which says “whatever Larry says is okay by usâ€.
Election time is less than 6 months away. Larry Combs won’t be on the ballot but three of his cohorts will be and the public should remember this major failure of leadership when casting their ballot for Supervisor.
